Frequently Asked Questions

What is Botox?

Botox is a prescription medication that can only be purchased with a medical license, and is injected into facial muscles by a medical professional to temporarily decrease wrinkles.  This creates a youthful, rested, peaceful, smooth, and happy appearance. It can be used to drop a gummy smile, cease frowning, and arch the brow. Botox Cosmetic is the only FDA-approved treatment to temporarily lessen the appearance of severe facial lines.

Is Botox safe?

Botox is widely accepted as a prescription treatment in the scientific community. It is FDA approved in the US and has been approved for use in 98 countries total. Botox has been referenced as safe in over 500 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals.

How does Botox work?

When there is a line or crease on your face, there is an underlying muscle that contracts to create that crease. Botox is injected into that muscle to reduce muscle activity. Target areas include crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines. Once muscle activity is reduced, the skin appears smoother, with less noticeable lines.

Does Botox prevent wrinkles?

Botox is typically associated for people over the age of 40, however, that’s just not the case. Botox is typically prescribed to individuals based on the severity of the lines on the face, but it is also preventative. If you prevent a wrinkle from forming it never will!  New studies indicate a rise in younger people using Botox to prevent future deep creases.

Will my face look unnatural with Botox?

Quite the contrary. Bobbi Bullock NP-C is a national trainer for Allergan, the makers of Botox, and she gets her training from the top. She then passes on her knowledge to all the Certified RN Injectors at BBME. They understand the art of leaving some natural movement, while reducing the severity of the creasing.

Does Botox hurt?

Botox is very easy. BBME uses 29g insulin needles. All the injectors are nurses, and giving shots is their  #1 job! They have a very gentle hand and the actual procedure is over in about 3 minutes. They also use the AccuVein vein finder to avoid painful blood vessels and bruising.

How long does it take to recover from Botox injections?

Botox recovery is quick! The little blebs of injected medication disappear after about 10 minutes, and some quick cover-up hides any visible, tiny injection sites.  Patients must avoid strenuous exercise and facial pressure for about 4 hours, then they can return to daily life!

When will I see results?

Results typically can be seen as soon as 3 days, and are at full development in 7-10 days.

How many injections will I need?

Each injection site will get 1-5 units in each needle poke, with a total of 5-25 very little pokes. It’s easy and fast, and the most anxious patients are typically angry they wasted that nervous energy.

How long does Botox last?

Botox is FDA approved to last at least 3 months. Results vary from patient to patient, depending on goals and other factors, however, appointments are typically scheduled every three to four months. Scheduling a consultation can give you a better idea of what your specific treatment needs will look like.

If I get Botox once, will I need it forever?

Absolutely no! It can be a one-and-done little treat, or a 4x a year maintenance program. When Botox wears off, facial muscles will resume their previous activity and strength.
