It just seems like no matter what you try you still can’t seem to lose that stubborn fat that hangs on to certain areas of your body. Areas like the tummy, upper arms, chin, etc. Are you ready to make your “problem area” a non-issue, and become your new favorite body part?

At Bobbi Bullock Medical Esthetics, we meet people just like you that have fought in the “battle of the bulge” for years and came out victorious. If you are like many of us struggling to maintain a diet and exercise regimen and cannot seem to meet their body goals, then you may have already considered CoolSculpting®.

One of the best things about CoolSculpting® is that it requires no preparation. However, there are certain things you should know and consider before you choose CoolSculpting as your solution. Here are five things you need to know about CoolSculpting® to make your decision to invest in yourself and turn that New Year’s resolution into a proud accomplishment.

Who is a good candidate for CoolSculpting?

Every single day we receive calls and walk-ins at our medical spa with this exact question. Who is a good candidate for the fat reduction, body contouring treatment CoolSculpting®? CoolSculpting® is designed for people who have unwanted areas of fat that even with diet and exercise tend to stick around. The procedure is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction but should not be considered a weight-loss solution for obesity. A good candidate has noticeable bulges of fat in certain areas of the body. Typical target areas for this type of fat include the “muffin top” (stubborn belly fat), the “baby pouch” (extra fat that remains after baby arrives), “love handles,” over-the-bra fat, the “double-chin.” etc.

So many patients have experienced amazing results with CoolSculpting®, but it’s not intended for everyone. CoolSculpting® is intended to shape a body by removing subcutaneous fat, which is the fat just under the skin. The procedure is not intended to remove visceral fat, which is deeper and around the organs. CoolSculpting is also not intended for those with a very high BMI.

The best way to find out if this fat reduction, body contouring treatment is the best solution for you is by scheduling a complimentary consultation with our CoolSculpting® experts. However, a few signs you may be a good candidate for CoolSculpting® include:

    • You can “pinch an inch” or more of fat in the area
    • You’re not pregnant or trying to get pregnant
    • You’re generally healthy and fit
    • You’re 10-40 lbs. from your target weight
    • You’re ready to get rid of your stubborn fat pockets for good

CoolSculpting® is Proven Safe, Effective, and Worth It

The CoolSculpting procedure is FDA-cleared for the abdomen, bra bulge, back fat, flanks (aka love handles), upper arm, inner and outer thighs, and under the butt. It has been labeled a safe and effective medical treatment. CoolSculpting® is the number one body contouring procedure and has been performed millions of times all over the world.

CoolSculpting® is a nonsurgical, noninvasive device that reduces localized subcutaneous fat. It utilizes low temperatures to freeze and ultimately destroy the fat cells of the desired body area. The surrounding tissue is safe and unaffected.

Realself—an aesthetics treatment review and rate website—has over 20,000 registered doctors and practices with more than 2 million reviews and over 90 million visitors. It gave CoolSculpting® an 81% “worth-it” rating

“Coolsculpting has changed my body, which has changed my life. That may sound trite but wearing the clothing I want to wear and having the confidence to do it is life altering. CS works so well, at 49 I now have the body I’ve always wanted.”  – Bobbi Bullock, NPC

    What exactly is CoolSculpting®?

Do you keep hearing some friends on social media rave about the amazing results they got with CoolSculpting®? You might find yourself asking what is CoolSculpting®? Furthermore, you’re reading this article today to get the low down about this treatment and see if it is right for you. Here is the inside scoop.

Harvard Medical School is where it all began. Rox Anderson collaborated with Dieter Manstein out of Massachusetts General Hospital to invent the CoolSculpting® procedure. Years ago, these two scientists discovered that fat cells exposed to freezing temperatures could go into apoptosis (cell death). They conducted a study that found children who ate popsicles would develop dimples as a result of small pockets of fat cells being exposed to the freezing temperatures. With further studies that found that other tissues were not affected.

CoolSculpting® is cryolipolysis, a body contouring technique that works by nearly freezing the subcutaneous fat tissue resulting in fat cells damage and death reducing the number of fat cells of the treated area of the body.

CoolSculpting® is not a type of liposuction or surgery.

The CoolSculpting® procedure is similar to liposuction, a clinical fat reduction treatment. Like liposuction, it has proven to be effective in reducing adipose tissue and improving body contour. Results from CoolSculpting® are comparable to those from liposuction. However, CoolSculpting® is not liposuction.

One is a surgery that aspirates the fat cells from the body (liposuction). The other is a less expensive, highly effective, non-surgical treatment for permanent fat loss (CoolSculpting®).

If you are someone that needs to lose a large amount of weight and fat, liposuction is going to be a more effective option. However, if you are someone that needs to lose only the stubborn subcutaneous fat, or a fat pocket then CoolSculpting® is likely a better option as it is nonsurgical and noninvasive, unlike liposuction.

What to expect during and after CoolSculpting®

CoolSculpting® is gentle enough that patients only experience mild discomfort, if at all, while being treated. Most CoolSculpting® treatments (aka placements) are 30 to 40 minutes.

During the procedure, our licensed practitioner and expert will use the CoolSculpting® device that uses a vacuum applicator to deliver controlled cooling to the area. The precise and expertly placed applicator makes all the difference. Exposing the fat cells to critically low temperatures causes them to die. Immediately after the cooling process, our practitioner does a specialized two-minute massage to increase the number of cell deaths. Following the procedure, the dead fat cells are flushed out of the body via your metabolism and the liver.

Occasionally, patients will experience redness, tingling, minor bruising, and numbness. This will last for a short period of time. In very rare cases patients develop paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH), which is a gradual enlargement of the area of treatment that occurs when the freezing activates an adverse reactionary response in the fatty tissue which causes expansion rather than the decomposition of the cells. Incidence rates of PAH are extremely rare.

You can return to work and your regular activities right after your CoolSculpting® treatment because it is nonsurgical and noninvasive.

Results from CoolSculpting® are not immediate, because the body requires time to eliminate the dead cells. Patients can see results in as little as one month. Typically, the most dramatic results are apparent approximately 100 days post-procedure.
